is the Japanese art
of printing...

specifically the printing of fish.
Sailfish printed by Mineo Yamamoto

Mineo Ryuka Yamamoto, master gyotaku printer from Japan, specializes in the indirect art form. Spreading fabric over the fish, he carefully applies ink with a silk tampo. This technique allows for the use of a myriad of colours and broad artistic licence while retaining an exact replica, scale by scale of the specimen.
